Disease Prevention Campaigns
Many diseases including life-threatening ones can often be prevented with a healthy lifestyle, self-examinations and regular medical check-ups. Dover Hospital and its Friends are therefore also working intensively on disease prevention campaigns through which we promote healthy living and raise awareness of the symptoms to watch for. Examples include:
-
Media appearances. The hospital staff and the Friends of Dover County Hospital work closely with the local radio and TV stations in order to attract attention of wider population and promote healthy lifestyle as the most effective disease prevention measure.
-
Visiting schools and organising workshop. The research shows that children who eat a healthy diet are more likely to live a healthy lifestyle later in life. Hospital staff and the Friends are therefore regularly visiting schools and organising workshops that promote healthy diet and regular exercise.
-
Visiting nursing homes. The Friends of Dover County Hospital are also regularly visiting nursing homes in order to offer companionship to the elderly as well as to teach them what they can do to improve their health and quality of life.
-
Issuing brochures, booklets and other informational material. In order to inform the public about the importance of healthy lifestyle and detection of early symptoms of health problems, the hospital staff also regularly publishes various informational material which is available in the waiting rooms, while a large part is also sent to private practices and people’s homes.
-
Online campaigns. Dover Hospital and its Friends are also taking advantage of the modern information technology including the Internet to reach a larger number of people and help them preserve and improve their health. Besides running our own website, the Friends are also active at social media which have been shown to be a very effective way to reach a large number of people in a very short period of time at low cost.
We believe that the best way to treat diseases and conditions is to prevent them. We would therefore like to take an advantage of your attention and call you to follow healthy diet guidelines and be adequately physically active. By eating low calorie but nutritionally rich diet, you will get all the necessary vitamins, minerals, fibres and other essential nutrients your body needs to function properly, while adequate physical activity will help you maintain a healthy body weight and fitness. You are also highly recommended to learn stress management techniques because stress can seriously affect both your mental and physical well-being. Lastly, see your doctor when you are experiencing any unusual symptoms because just about all diseases are treated a lot easier if they are detected early.
