How You Can Help
There are many ways how you can help us become better and do more for the patients of Devon Hospital and their families. We are grateful for every form of help we receive. If you want to help us, you can do so by:
-
Donating. We are a non-profit organisation and all our members are volunteers. We have, however, many expenses which are related to our work with the patients and their families including fuel, materials for workshops, facility to store donated clothing, shoes and other items that are distributed to those who are less fortunate from us, etc.. We are happy of every contribution we receive, even if it is only a few pounds. We would highly appreciate if you could make a small donation.
-
Become our member. Every pair of hands and good will are appreciated. It does not matter if you have experience with health care or not and it does not matter if you are a student or retired as long as you are willing to help. The only condition is that you are at least 18 years old and that you are willing to make hospital stay for the patients and their families more pleasant, and help us reach less fortunate members of our community.
-
Respect hospital rules. Many people are helping us a lot without even being aware of it. Everyone who respects hospital rules, e.g. visits their loved ones during visiting hours, disinfect their hands before entering the hospital, avoiding visit to the hospital if not feeling well or if having symptoms of a cold or flu, etc.. That way they help the staff to stay on the schedule and provide all patients the care they need as well as allow the patients to get the necessary rest to recover. By not visiting the hospital when being sick themselves, the visitors also help prevent spreading infections which can cause potentially serious complications in vulnerable patients and enable them to return home sooner.
-
Take care of your health. If you want to help other people, you need to take care of your first. Many of us do not really realise how lucky we are until we get ill. But in comparison to a cold or flu that make us feel miserable for days, many patients in the hospital are fighting serious diseases with some even fighting for their lives. So take care of your health while you can by eating a healthy diet, being adequately physically active, learn stress managing techniques and of course find some time for the little pleasures and your loved ones.
